cyber day #6

Philip II- He was born on May 21, 1527, in Valladolid, Spain and died September 13, 1598, in El Escorial. Philip II was king of the Spaniards from 1556–98 and king of the Portuguese (as Philip I) from 1580–98. He was known as the champion of the Roman Catholic Counter-Reformation. During his reign the Spanish empire came to its greatest power, extent, and influence. Although, he failed to suppress the revolt of the Netherlands (which began in 1566) and lost the “Invincible Armada” in the attempted invasion of England in 1588.
Alexander the Great- He served as king of Macedonia from 336 to 323 B.C. During his time of leadership, he united Greece, reestablished the Corinthian League, and conquered the Persian Empire. He is knwn to be the conqueror and king of Macedonia. Alexander the Great was born on July 20, 356 B.C., in Pella, in the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia. During his leadership from 336 to 323 B.C., he united the Greek city-states and led the Corinthian League. He also became the king of Persia, Babylon, and Asia. He created Macedonian colonies in the region as well. While considering the conquests of Carthage and Rome, Alexander died of malaria in Babylon (which is present Iraq), on June 13, 323 B.C.
Darius III- He was born in 380 BC, Persia and died in July 330 BC, Bactria. He was originally named Artashata, but was called Codomannus by the Greeks. Darius III was the last king of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia, which lasted from 336 BC to 330 BC. Artashata adopted Darius as a dynastic name. His empire was unstable, with large portions governed by jealous and unreliable satraps and inhabited by rebellious subjects. In 334 BC, Alexander the Great began his invasion of the Persian Empire and defeated the Persians in a number of battles before looting and destroying their capital, Persepolis, by fire in 330 BC. With the Persian Empire now effectively under Alexander's control, Alexander then decided to pursue Darius. Before Alexander reached him, however, Darius was killed by his cousin Satrap Bessus.
How they are all connected- The Persian capital of Babylon, where King Darius III (also known as Darius Codomanus) had gathered an army formidable enough. He hoped to halt the invasion of the Persian-dominated lands of the eastern Mediterranean by Macedonian forces. But King Alexander the Great, only 25 years old, led his men into Asia. To the king’s soldiers, their invasion would avenge half a century of devastation brought onto Greece during the Persian wars between 499 and 448 BC. Preceding his invasion, a period of continuous political intrigue between Persia and the Hellenic city-states had prevailed up to the assassination of Alexander’s father, King Philip II of Macedon, in 336 BC. Although the person responsible for Philip’s murder was never determined, many historians think it's his divorced wife, Olympias, princess of Epirus and mother of Alexander.
